is sought that the respondent’s no. 1 to 4 should be directed
to implement the Guidelines issued by the Apex Court in the case of
S. Jagannath v. Union of India and others reported in A.I.R. 1997
S.C 811 shrimp farming which, according to the Petitioners is proceeding
unabated. An Affidavit had been filed on 15th December 2003 by the
Director of Directorate of Fisheries, Panjim Goa. Stating therein
that the collector, South Goa has found that out of 25 cases complained
of, 23 farmers were farming shrimp, illegally. Accordingly the collector
had issued show cause notices on 4th December, 2003 to 23 owners of
illegal farms directing them to stop activities on the illegal farms
by 1st January 2004 or show cause why action should not be taken against
them accordance with section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act,
1986. |
