ON SPECIAL ASPECTS OF LIFE INSURANCE

Life Insurance is a device which protects us from risks and the fear
of early death. The policy of Life Insurance which evidences the contract
entered into by the insurer and the applicant for the insurance is
primarily a contract and is governed by general principals relating
to contracts. It has, however certain special aspects which need to
be known. Thus the members of the “CYBER LEGAL AID” conducted
a programme for creating awareness among the First Year B.B.A students
on the ‘Special aspects of Life Insurance
As per the schedule,
the programme began at 12.00 p.m, with an introduction given by the
Incharge Miss. Gleerose Fernandes. There after Ms. Gleerose Fernandes
gave a brief introduction & welcomed our Chief Guest & speaker
Sir Subha Rao the Legal and Financial manager of the LIC, Panaji to
the Dais.
The Members (Ms. Ula Luis and Ms. Yunna Pinheiro) then presented a
floral tribute to our Chief Guest Sir Subha Rao & to the Project
and event manager of the college respectively.
Our Chief Guest
for this programme Sir Subha Rao began his talk by explaining the
meaning of Life Insurance. He said that the Life Insurance policy
is based on one main aspect that is utmost good faith & therefore
deceit would only lead to forfeiture of the policy.
He spoke on the various types of insurance policies & the essentials
involved in the Formation of a Life Insurance Contract. He then went
on to speak about what is Insurable Interest in Life insurance, the
Proposal and policy involved in Life insurance & mentioned that
the Life Insurance Policy is initiated by the acceptance of a proposal
form and this contract is valid as long as the premium is paid. Further
he also spoke on the Claim and Title to the Policy like premature
claim, cases of accidental death etc. He then concluded by explaining
some of LIC money back policies like Jeeven Anurag Scheme, Jeevan
Bima & the like.
Later the members distributed pamphlets & brochures on Insurance
policies to all students.
A question hour
session was then conducted in which the students actively participated.
Some of the questions raised were as follows:
1) By Ms. Neha Singhal :- ‘What is the upper & lower limit
up to which one can insure oneself ?’
2) By Ms. Sharva Kerkar :- ‘What are the documents needed to
make an insurance policy ?
3) By Ms. Aditi Chandelkar:- ‘What are the conditions involved
to make an insurance policy ?’
4) By Mr. Sunil Kauathankar:- ‘Who can claim after the death
of the policy holder?’
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Incharge
Ms. Gleerose Fernandes which was then followed by a vote of thanks
proposed by Ms. Neha Singhal on behalf of the F.Y students for enlightening
them on the ‘Special Aspects of Life Insurance’.
