PROGRAMME
ON CONSUMER RIGHTS
Date: 04-06-2005 The programme began with the President
of the Jaycees calling the gathering to Dais was presided over by: 1.The first speaker for the day was Ms. Vijayshree Irraker, in her speech she spoke on 'The Reasons For The Passing Of Consumer Rights Act'. She also spoke highlighting that consumer related crimes these days are called White Collar Crimes and such crimes can be controlled if consumers get united and build up public opinion. 2.The next speaker was Mr. Amay Phadte, who divided his topic in to parts: a)In the first part, a skit was enacted depicting a seen at a medical store, where in the chemist sells drugs that are of expired date. He further went on to explain what a consumer should do when he comes to know that he has been cheated by the seller. b)In the second part he gave a talk relating to, the 'Procedure Of Filing a Consumer Suit'. he also went on to explain the hierarchy of Consumer Courts and the limitation period which every consumer should bear in mind to prevent the court from denying him justice. 3.The third speaker for the day, Ms. Yunna Pinheiro spoke with illustrations to explain the topic 'Penalties For Default'. She also mention that failure on the part of the Opposite party in fulfilling the Order passed by the Consumer Forum, would entitle the Plaintiff to approach the Civil Court and ask for Execution of the Order. 4.After which there was an interactive session, where in queries raised by the audience were answered. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Cell Incharge Ms. Gleerose Fernandes. |
