Cyber Society

To introduce students to the world of computers and information technology, the Cyber Society of the College was inaugurated in September 2000. The desired outcome of the Society is that students should be able to access global information in all its myriad forms to supplement class- room learning, which at times becomes only subject based, due to various constraints.

With 30 dedicated computers, Cyber Society provides the much needed computer facility and free Internet services to the student community.

Students are able to utilize the facility and conduct their research, complete class assignments and participate in various competitions.


Highlights of the Cyber Lab

The Cyber Society maintains the college computer laboratory, which is housed in a spacious, air-conditioned hall of its own.
 
2.
It has 30 computers Intel P4 computers with TFT screen with high-speed Pentium processors.
 
3.
The computer laboratory is provided with Broadband high-speed Internet connectivity.
 
4.
The laboratory has laser printing as well as scanning facilities.
 
5.
A qualified person has been appointed as a full-time laboratory in-charge for the efficient administration of cyber society.
 
6.
The Laboratory is maintained by a qualified technical person on a regular basis.
 
7.
The Cyber Committee consists of 2 faculty members and 2 computer experts, who frequently meet to discuss the issues relating to computer lab.
 
8.
The college has subscribed legal data base ‘manupatra’, which can be accessed through all computers in the lab as well as in laptops through Wi-Fi connectivity within the college campus.
 
9.
AIR CD has been installed in the computer through which the students can obtain the judgments of Supreme Court, offline.
 
10.
Separate computers have been provided for moot court researchers to carry out their research within the computer lab.
 


Objectives

1.
COMPUTER EDUCATION / TRAINING TO ALL STUDENTS
  • All students of this college are given basic education/training in the use of computers and computer applications software such as MS WORD, MS POWERPOINT etc.

  • Special emphasis is laid on drafting documents in MS WORD and presentations using MS POWERPOINT. Also preparation of OHP slides for class seminars and presentations by the students is encouraged. Students are provided with printing facilities for this purpose at a very nominal rate.
   
2.
INTERNET FACILITIES
  • The computer lab is provided with Broadband with high speed internet connectivity and gives free internet access to the students.

  • Students are taught Internet browsing, email and researching on the internet. The use of proper internet resources is especially encouraged for preparation in their seminars, presentation etc.

  • The laboratory timings are rationed and activities are strictly monitored so that all students can have access to the lab and no misuse of the same takes place. On an average around 150-200 students use the computer facilities everyday.

  • It has the CAUSELISTS of the Supreme Court as well as the High Courts in India, and hosts the VMSCL Online Law Library, VMSCL Online Law Review and a host of other features.

  • Besides the information made available on the website, queries by people for legal opinion assistance etc are also encouraged at specially maintained feedback email addresses.

ONLINE LAW LIBRARY

The VMSCL Online Library maintains an exhaustive and systematic database of material and links to International/Municipal: Courts/Tribunals, Case laws, Organizations; International Conventions/Treaties; Municipal Laws; and a very exhaustive listing of Online Law Journals from around the world.


ONLINE LAW REVIEW

The V M Salgaocar College of Law - Online Law Review is a scholarly legal journal that shall be published once a year by an editorial board and staff. In addition to its educational function, the Law Review has been conceptualized to serve two other purposes, these are: as a research aid for the legal community and as a platform for innovative analysis of contemporary issues.
